The time has come for me to bid farewell.

It has been a long and exciting journey which I have thoroughly enjoyed. When I reflect on the past 22 years, I can recount so many positive memories.

Over the years, I have seen the organisation grow from a company with 5 clients to the business it is today. Spanning this time, I have forged really strong relationships with staff and clients alike, and together we have shared many laughs and many challenges. As with any business, the company has changed ownership over time, but even during these dynamic periods, the management and staff have never lost focus. I attribute this to the fact that many of us have been together for so long, and we really do run I-Soft as a team.

Amongst all the hard work, there have also been many fun times! Roly and I have worked together from the beginning and when we were ‘younger,’ we certainly knew how to party! We have seen each other’s children grow from toddlers to adults. I recall many a company fun run, with our kids as mascots, sporting the colours of I-Soft, waiting at the winning line. We may not have won the events, but we did walk away with the prize for the best supported company twice!

One of my best memories was when, during an office function, Roly handed me the keys to his Mazda MX6. I am sure that there are not many people who have had a sports car as a company vehicle!

I treasure the years I have spent at I-Soft. And I believe that the success of this company can be attributed to a dedicated, supportive management team coupled with committed and loyal staff. Thank you Chris, Roly and Aubrey for your uncompromising support over the years, and for giving me the opportunities I
have had.

It is now time for me to hand over the reigns to my successor, Tim James. I wish Tim, the shareholders, the staff and the clients of I-Soft the best for 2007 and great success in the coming years.
Here’s to all of you!

Sue Clague

We have pleasure in announcing Tim James as I-Soft Solutions’ new Managing Director. Tim joins I-Soft after a 10 year career at IBM South Africa, spanning multiple disciplines. Tim describes himself as a ‘techie at heart,’ having started with IBM as a systems engineer in IBM’s midrange computing environment. In 1996, Tim left IBM briefly to join De Beers in a management role but rejoined IBM at the beginning of 1999. He has performed various roles in IBM’s Outsourcing and Consulting Divisions. The majority of his experience has been in leading teams in multinational, multi-million dollar outsourcing engagements. He also brings with him international experience obtained on assignment with IBM in the UK, having worked on a large application development project for a UK government department. Tim describes his business ethos as ‘service delivery through service excellence’ and has always endeavoured to ensure that this is permeated through the teams that he has worked with.

Tim joins I-Soft at a time when we need to look to the future and inject fresh impetus into the business. Tim states, ‘I believe that I-Soft and OMNIX are the perfect platform, both personally in respect of growth and also for our customers. The product is stable, reliable and provides business value to our clients. I intend to build on this platform and ensure that our customers continue to see business value in their investments through service excellence, good governance and strong teaming, fundamental ingredients to a solid partnership going forward. I am very excited about the future.’

On a personal front, Tim is a family man, married to Teresa with two girls, Jodi and Lucy. He enjoys spending time with his family, particularly at our many game reserves and tends to knock the odd golf ball around a park into gofer holes. An interesting fact which often surprises people is that Tim is in fact a trained lawyer but ‘saw the light’ on graduation and decided to pursue a career in information technology. We wish Tim all the best with I-Soft and trust he will be an asset to the company going forward.

We take this opportunity to welcome Tim on board.

I-Soft is thrilled to announce Rex Trueform as a new OMNIX client. Having reviewed a number of software solutions, the OMNIX Clothing Manufacturing Module was selected as the best fit for the business.

The Rex Trueform Atlantis factory was first opened in 1984. Initially the business focused on manufacturing men’s shirts and later diversified into manufacturing a variety of high quality men’s and ladies’ clothing products.

Up until recently, planning, purchasing and general administration was controlled at the company’s head office, based in Salt River, Cape Town. With the restructure of the Rex Trueform Group earlier this year, it became necessary to convert the Atlantis factory into a stand-alone unit. Following these changes, OMNIX was selected as the manufacturing system most suitable for facilitating this process. OMNIX was introduced into the business in a phased approach and we are pleased to say that it is now fully operational, covering all major functions within the business. According to Gordon Bradley, Director of Rex Trueform, the business is extremely happy with the implementation and services received to date.

For many of us, a wireless usually refers to a radio. Probably short or medium wave, as the term was coined in the early days of single duplex (one way) communication from one point to many. Today we have wireless full duplex radio networks, transmitting and receiving numerous data types.

The term ‘wireless’ can become quite confusing for the layman, as it may refer to mobile and wireless over a small region like your home, or it may refer to a larger area such as an entire country.

When deciding whether to go wireless, there are a couple of key factors to consider. If you want to be mobile over geographic range and you have a laptop and can afford the monthly cost over a 2 year contract period, 3G/HSDPA is the recommended option. MTN and Vodacom provide this particular solution at a monthly cost of approximately R350, which includes 1GB.

The other alternative is to select ADSL from Telkom and install wireless access points wherever you need connectivity. I-Soft Internet’s ADSL offering at R99 per GB is a great solution. The more GB’s you take, the less you will pay. Using the ADSL option, you are also able to set up VPN connections between your home and office. And for those who are not in a position to purchase ADSL, I-Soft Internet can provide you with wireless uncapped internet access from as little as R399 per month.

Whether at work or at home, with wireless network you can remain connected while mobile. Contact Aubrey Davies to get connected now.

It’s Friday afternoon and as the company IT Systems Administrator, you’re looking forward to a relaxing weekend with the family, and you’re about to walk out the office. Then disaster strikes. A user is on the line saying he cannot connect to your server. Your cellphone rings. Another user with the same problem. And then another. And another. Within minutes you have members of the management team storming into your office, complaining that they cannot get their month end figures out and that sales cannot dispatch stock because
they are unable to invoice. And you still haven’t had a chance to investigate what is causing all these problems! You try to reboot the server machine and you’re faced with a black screen. Visions of your relaxing family weekend start to fade into a distant memory.

To avoid this happening to your business, I-Soft have launched a Disaster Recovery Program (DRP) service to aid customers in the event of downtime. The DRP service includes a hardware/network platform in the event of a disaster. In addition, I-Soft maintains the hardware platform and provides for all necessary licensing and maintenance relating to DRP. As a fully fledged ISP/ASP, I-Soft can extend this service to both OMNIX users and other customers. Whether you are running a Progress database or a Microsoft SQL Server database, I-Soft can assist you in implementing a disaster recovery plan. So chat to Aubrey Davies on (021) 419 7140 and turn those hassle-free weekends into a reality.
