Implicit in preparing for the future is the notion that things are going
to change. And as part of a blueprint for success, I-Soft needs to build
on an organisational spirit that encourages this change. This means having
to let go to create a space for new opportunities, new thinking and new
strategic actions. As we know, the
hallmark of a strategically managed business is firstly that it recognises
the need for change, then plans strategically what it needs to change
and most importantly, takes those plans and converts them into strategically
managed actions. This means taking realistic decisions and making way
for new people and new ideas. Our journey together over the past 25 years
has seen some exciting times. The business has grown from strength to
strength and I can
truly say that I have enjoyed the ride. However, the future success of
a business cannot be built on the successes of the past alone. We need
to create a future that embraces innovation and dynamic thinking, while
at the same time ensuring that the client experience is not compromised.
This year will see the dawn of a fresh, exciting era for I-Soft, where
we will build on the existing skills, experience and leadership that is
already in place. Sadly, we will be saying farewell to some very familiar
faces, while at the same time strengthening top management with new appointments
in the coming months.
In sync with these changes, the shareholders of I-Soft have committed
a generous amount of funding into R&D, which we strongly believe will
take OMNIX to the next level. OMNIX is an extremely powerful and stable
product and together with the injection of funding, this mature solution
will truly reach its potential. As a
company we will intensify the focus and energy that we devote to sales
within the traditional private sector, while at the same time pursuing
new opportunities within the public sector. In line with this strategy
will be a focus on continually finding ways to improve on our service
levels, while at the same time expanding our regional presence in South
Africa.
Speaking on behalf of the directors and shareholders of I-Soft, we are
excited and well prepared for the challenges that lie before us and we
assure you of our commitment to the same philosophies and business ethos
that have made
I-Soft the success it is today. Much of our success can be attributed
to the commitment of you, our clients and for that we thank you. In the
words of the
Greek philosopher Heraclitus, “There is nothing permanent except
change.” Please join us in making the future happen.

The
I-Soft technical team is generally contacted when a customer experiences
a problem and there probably isn’t much time, under these circumstances,
to chat and to find out exactly who these guys and girls really are. So
we decided to dedicate a section of the April I-Soft News to
doing just that!
Ashraf Mallick
For the early birds amongst you, Ashraf’s friendly voice is the
first you’ll hear if you phone the office before the switchboard
opens. He is also the man that sorts out many of the technical problems
you may encounter. When he’s not at the office, Ashraf can be found
hiking up mountains or taking long scenic drives. As long as it involves
his family, he is happy.
Chandré de Wet Chandré graduated from Cape
Technikon in 2002 after completing a National Diploma in Information Technology.
Chandré joined I-Soft as a Technical Consultant, her focus being
on documentation of system processes. In her spare time, Chandré
involves herself with community youth work and takes part in dance lessons.
Chandré says she loves children - especially when they are still
little!
Kenny van Blerk
Many clients will have encountered Kenny on the Internet helpdesk, where
he spends much of his time resolving first level support issues related
to email, dial-up access and connectivity. Sometimes he is faced with
new, unpredictable problems, which keeps him on his toes! Kenny loves
interacting with colleagues and clients. If Kenny cannot solve your problems,
he will pass them on to Willem below.
Willem Pretorius
Before joining I-Soft, Willem played a pivotal role at another large
ISP. He has very good experience in Linux and Windows servers and also
enjoys client support. Willem is interested in VoIP and all server related
technology. He is a water sports enthusiast and a crew member of the National
Sea Rescue.
Jason Moodie
Jason’s primary focus area at I-Soft is hardware support. He is
involved
with all desktop, PC and OMNIX support, as well as network issues. Jason
enjoys producing music and luckily for his wife, he enjoys doing anything
that includes her.
Ursula Southgate
Ursula has many years under her belt as a Unix / Linux Administrator.
She finds it very rewarding working together with clients to resolve their
technical issues and although it can become challenging at times, she
always focuses on the positive. She likes to make a difference in people’s
lives and enjoys reading and listening to music in her leisure time.
Edgar Sampson
From being a System Administrator and Progress Administrator at the
City Council, to developing applications and maintaining Progress and
the systems around it for the country’s largest retailers, Edgar
has seen it all. Edgar is the latest addition to I-Soft’s professional
team. In his spare time, Edgar is studying towards an IT Diploma with
his current subjects being Business Analysis III and BI.

There’s
been a lot of talk about VoIP. At an entry level, all you require is an
inexpensive microphone or headset. Using a Bluetooth headset, which communicates
wirelessly with your PC through what is termed a ‘dongle’,
takes the VoIP experience to a more sophisticated level. The only other
requirement is some free software such as Skype or Google Talk that sits
on your desktop. Once this has been set up, you’ll be able to see
when a contact on the same service is online. To start speaking to them,
simply press a button! Services such as Skype allow you to call any number
in the world, both fixed and mobile at very low rates. At around 13 cents
per minute, you can place calls to Europe and America. And even better,
call quality is generally superior to normal voice quality you hear on
the phone. All of this works really well with I-Soft ADSL. If you would
like to find out more about Skype and ADSL, or receive a free quotation,
please contact I-Softnet on 0861 476 382.

We all know how annoying faxing can be. Pages get misplaced, we have
to scan the document to store an electronic copy, not to mention the amount
of paper that gets wasted. Fax2mail is a new and innovative concept that
allows you to receive your fax documents directly in your inbox via your
own personal fax number. Faxes can easily be stored electronically and
what is meant for your eyes, will be for your eyes only. In addition,
you have the option to activate the sending function of this service,
which allows you to send faxes right from your computer.
All you require to activate this service is Internet access. On sign
up, you’ll be allocated a dedicated 0866 number which will be forwarded
to your email address. Faxes are received as .TIF attachments and can
be viewed with Image Viewer (this comes standard with Windows operating
systems), which eliminates the need for additional software. From here,
faxes can be printed, forwarded to any number of recipients at the click
of a mouse, or stored electronically. There are numerous benefits that
come with using Fax2mail. The service is designed to accommodate high
volumes of incoming faxes, the need for fixed fax lines is eliminated,
privacy of documents is protected and costs associated to paper, ink and
wastage are greatly reduced.
Please
feel free to contact Aubrey Davies, Managing Director of I-Softnet, if
you would like to find out more about any of these services, or visit
